(pc) egypt old kingdom master of history. egypt old kingdom pc requirements Alright I don't often do reviews but I want to support this little gem of a game and give people an idea of what its all about. So here goes.Immersion - 10/10Very detailed tooltips that explain most every aspect of the game with both practical gameplay effects along with historically accurate explanations of what each action, building, or population represents. You start off with one worker that represents 250 men, women and children. That's your entire clan at this point. Your just one of hundreds of other clans moving into the area competing for resources and supremacy. And the tool tips, events, and research screens are all lovingly hand drawn in convincing ancient Egyptian art style. Which brings me to the next section. Visual appeal. Visual Appeal 10/10This is one of my favorite things about this game. This is not a game with eye-popping graphics or effects. If you want that kind of game you are in the wrong place. What it does have is an amazingly authentic Egyptian art style to every visual aspect of the game. All the worker cards are animated in a style that one would imagine Egyptian temple or tomb art would look like were it able to move. Its really beautiful to watch. The event cards are likewise full of very appealing and stylized Egyptian scenes. The UI itself is no exception giving a feel of those early materials that would be in common use. Stone, copper, gold, precious stones. Very attractive overall.Gameplay - 8/10The game plays very much like a 4X / city builder / boardgame. That's really the only way I can describe it. You start the game with a single worker pop on what will become the city screen. The fog of war surrounds you and like any good 4X game your off to go explore, exploit the best tiles to help you grow more pops and in turn expand even more. But your not alone. Competing for those same tiles are other early Egyptian clans that would like to establish themselves as the new power in the area. If you manage to bring the other clans under your mighty and wise rule then the world map opens up. And then you realize that your still just one of dozens of tribes. Some Egyptian. Some other peoples who see you and your gods as foreigners. This is where the challenge really begins as you must appease the gods with monuments to maintain balance on earth and in the spiritual realms. The game does a great job of making you understand the sheer magnitude of what it took to undertake and maintain these kind of building projects over 5000 years ago. Also your not going to be sitting back and building at your leisure either. The Libyans, the Asiatics and the Nubian peoples will all be happy to come raiding when every resource in your country is tied up building massive tombs and temple complexes for the ancestors. If that's not enough the kings of upper Egypt are mighty in their own right and will lay claim on the two lands when strong enough. In other words the game is challenging and gives a great feeling for the obstacles that were overcome by the old kingdom to build the first civilization in the world. Only real con is the combat system is very basic at the moment. Its more a battle of numbers with a few options for tactics in this current build. Would like to see more ways to influence battles and combat in future. Still very fun and addicting gameplay.Replay Value - 7/10Ok so the area I think needs the most work is the replay value of the game. This game has so much good going for it. A great and well researched historical campaign. Great immersive atmosphere and art. Fun and challenging gameplay. But its still a very linear campaign. The city map resources are random in placement and what shows up from one playthrough to the next. And the scripted events can be approached in more than one way. But the destination is inevitably the same one every game. What happens on the way may be different from one game to the next though. I understand why this was done. The game is meant to mirror the historical development of the old kingdom from its earliest beginning until the intermediate period. The open ended way the events can be approached does a good job of keeping to the history while giving the player choices that do affect the outcome and chance for victory. What I would like to see is a sandbox campaign alongside the historical campaign. That would add a ton of replayability to this already excellent little game.Overall - 8.5/10So this game is a lot of fun and I would recommend it to anyone who even remotely likes history or ancient Egypt in the least bit. For $15 dollars I already got 11 hours of gameplay out of it and bought it 2 days ago. I am yet to beat the final challenge and am on my 3rd playthrough. At times you will feel powerful like a mighty pharaoh of old. Other times you will feel as though you are barely holding on by your fingernails as the world begins to collapse around you. Your power in the game is not always linear either. Events can trigger dramatic shifts in power and its up to you to set the world in order and fight back the forces of chaos great pharaoh. Download the demo. Try it out. You will like it.. I like this. Only improvement suggestion would be some terrain that could fit buildings from different terrain types. I ran out of some slots for some special buildings.. I tried really hard to like this game, but it's inner logic seems fatally skewed. Poor balance, inscrutable game mechanics, and an almost impossible, pointless level of difficulty combine to make it just not very much fun. Even at the easiest level, everything is incredibly expensive, and demands are relentlessly administered; it is supremely frustrating rather than rewarding. Sad, because it has definite possibilities.. If this cannot be called a happy education, then what is it?
